The next morning the troop got a bright and early start canoeing. There weren't very many other boats on the river for a while; by midmorning there were hundreds of boats on the river. The water was warm and the weather was good; the float trip was all we could ask for. Most of us went swimming and participated in splash wars with our paddles. It was fun. After we were bussed back to camp, we broke camp and left. The Cromers and I went a different and more scenic way back. We stopped at an old historical marker and got to stand in three states at once, Oklahoma, Missouri and Arkansas.
On Saturday morning, we got in the cars and drove up Mount Scott, the tallest mountain in the Wichita's. There, we climbed over boulders until our climbing guides arrived. They talked about safety and rules, we got to put our harnesses on and went to the training wall (those things took forever). At the training wall, everyone did a 15-foot rappel down a rock face. Then, we moved on to harder stuff, which included 60-foot rappels and a tough climb up the cliff. After that, we got to eat lunch.
After lunch, I went exploring with a group of boys around the boulders on the mountainside until we had to leave. That was a really fun campout!
The orienteering meet was really fun. Here's how it worked: Everyone divided up into groups of 3 to 6 people and lined up on the starting line. Everyone started together, and in 3 and a half hours, we had to find as many points as possible and punch our map at each of those points. Each point had a specific point value, and whichever team with the most points at the end won. And you had to be back on time, or you'd receive a point deduction.
Sunday morning, we drove home, feeling the sharp cactus thorns and remembering the great time we had getting them.
The District Camporee was a fun gathering of the local Boy Scout troops at Camp Kickapoo. Each troop set up a different station for the scouts to do various activities, including basic skills like orienteering and knot-tying to my favorite activities: Geo-Caching, carrying a ball on 4 strings ( it's harder than it sounds), and a Walking A-frame. In the evening there was a campfire featuring the awarding of the Wood Badge. Then a bunch of Scoutmasters got up to sing a song (something I wish I had never witnessed). Lastly each troop performed a skit and awards were given out to the winners at each activity. Our troop won 2 events: the ball on the string one and the walking A-frame. It was a great experience.
This month we had a float trip on the Illinois River. Only 9 boys went, and it was a blast (YOU ALL SHOULD HAVE COME!) We spent the night in our tents by the river then in the morning went up to the main office of the place and rented canoes. The river was very nice and we had an awesome paddle down the river. We saw a herd of cows coming down to get a drink and saw lots of turtles and fish. On our mid-trip break we all swam in the river, fighting the current and skipping rocks and catching fish. Then, Kyle Major and I got in an accident. We hit a particularly vicious log in a stretch of fast moving water and when we just thought we had freed the boat, it flipped. The current dragged it under the vicious log, and when Mr. Tobey, Trey, Kyle, and I tried to get it out, we couldn't. For all we know, it's still there. Fortunately, that was near the end of the trip, so Kyle and I rode in Mr. Tobey and Trey's canoe the rest of the way.
We left a short while later, and I haven't heard a peep about our poor canoe since.
We ran a booth at the annual Safety Fair at the church. We did 3 things: a first aid demonstration, the mercury thermometer exchange, and cooking doughnuts. The doughnuts were a hit, we gave away over 300. The first aid people patched up a poor kid with a Band-aid, so they could be considered successful. We received 6 mercury thermometers and disposed of them properly, the 6 people who gave their old, hazardous thermometers received safe, new digital thermometers. Overall, it was a great service project.
The next day, after breakfast, we did more climbing in the canyon. Later we did a nature hike for the younger scouts. After the hike some people packed up and left, including me. After I left, there was a football game with the remaining people. After that, I dont know of anything else they did, so that was the end of the campout.
The first day we drove out and took a tour of the camp, this was when the camp got the only rain they had gotten all month. After the tour, we got camp set up, and hung around camp until dinner because none of the activities were open, after dinner it was more of the same. The next day was busy, everybody started work on their merit badges, and that night we had the opening campfire. The next few days were full of hard work by everybody to finish there merit badges by the end of the week. Friday night we had closing campfire and everybody got the awards they had earned, after that everybody worked together to take down the troop canopy in preparation for leaving the next day. the next day we all packed up and left everybody having finished everything they had planned on doing.

Troop Lock-in (Feb 2007) Δ
Lock-in BSA Troop 339 On February 23-24 many boys including myself went to a lock-in at out host church. Most of us did not sleep at, but some went to sleep to get a good nights rest. During the night we played Halo, Super Smash Bros Melee, Lego Star Wars, ping-pong, basketball, and many other activities. When the sun started to rise we picked up all the video games and started to clean up. In the end, I think we all had a lot of fun.Shane's Eagle Service Project (Feb 2007) Δ
Shane's Eagle Project BSA Troop 339 On the 17th of February, many boys went to Shane's house to build the doghouses. At 9:30 people started coming in as the job started. First we built the base, then the sides, and then last we made the roof. Once all the houses were built, we got out the paint. We gave each house two coats of paint. The houses would then be given to people who could not afford one of their own.Troop Basketball Game (Mar 2007) Δ
Troop Basket Ball Game Troop 339 On the tenth of March our troop went to Mitch Park to play a little basketball from 9:30 - 12:30. Once the game had started, Shane sprained his ankle and had to leave. I also heard Mr. Armstrong was unmatched until A.J. came later in the morning. At first they played five vs. five but later started a tournament with three teams of three. Then in a game of horse Mr. Weber came second to none other than Mr. Armstrong.Palo Duro Canyon, TX (Apr 27-29 2007) Δ
The troop left for Palo Duro on the 27th of April 2007. Palo Duro is a canyon located near Amarillo, Texas. On that Saturday a few boys and adults went on the short hike while several others left earlier for the long hike. Many went to the top of the âÄúlighthouseâÄù to see a wonderful view of the Grand Canyon of Texas. Äù Scouts doing the camping merit badge with Mr. Weber accomplished a lot of requirements. On August 25-26, our troop went camping at Devil’s Den State Park in West Fork, Arkansas. We visited the Prairie Grove Battlefield and took a tour of the museum on the grounds.Sailing at Arcadia (Sep 06) Δ

Score-O is an orienteering competition in Texas, and our troop was in attendance on October 20-22. One of our teams, “Lost in the Woods”, won second place overall, with our other teams coming in at 19th, 20th, 27th, and 34th.Wichita Mtns Climbing (Nov 06) Δ
Troop 339 camped out in the Wichita Mountains on November 17-19, 2006. An exciting campfire was held, and the group rapelled down a 40-foot cliff on Mt. Scott.Webelos Pin Night (Nov 06) Δ
As part of our regular troop meeting on November 28, 2006, we set up stations to help a group of Webelos earn their Engineer, Scientist, and Handyman pins. On October 14, 2006, we had a troop flag football game at Hafer Park in Edmond. The game began with an exciting start, and was a close game all the way through. No serious injuries were inflicted, and a good time was had by all.Myriad Gardens Δ

Elk River Float Trip Historian Report (Aug 05) Δ
After a four hour drive, we finally arrived at our campsite near Pineville, Missouri. It was about 9:30 pm in the night, and we set up camp, performed skits, and went over the precautions for lightning. You could see lightning in all directions, but you couldn't hear the thunder, and the storm kept its distance. I went to bed and the storm never came.The next morning the troop got a bright and early start canoeing. A.J. Stewart's Eagle Ceremony Δ
A.J.'s Eagle Court of Honor on August 30, 2005 went very well. One scout from each rank spoke. Mr. Weber, Mr. Tobey, Dick Holland and A.J.'s pastor spoke on accomplishment, leadership and faith. There was a slideshow of A.J. through the scouting ranks and the reception was great. There was a cake decorated with the Eagle award served with punch. This campout was a really fun one. On Friday night, we stayed at the same campsite we did last year at Doris Campground in the heart of the Wichita Mountains. In my opinion, this is the best campsite; there are many small clearings connected to each other by trails, and there are lots of good trees to climb and places to explore.On Saturday morning, we got in the cars and drove up Mount Scott, the tallest mountain in the Wichita's. SCORE-O ORIENTEERING, Bridgeport, TX (Oct 05) Δ
This campout was very memorable. First of all, it was a long 4-hour drive to get there, and we had to set up camp in the dark. Secondly, there were annoying prickly pear cacti everywhere which left little prickers in many people's skin. They were also distracting; my orienteering team cut one of the prickly pear fruits up and ate it, taking up 10 minutes of our precious time.The orienteering meet was really fun. WINTER EVENTS (Dec 05 - Feb 06) Δ
Snow tubing and ice skating- This December, instead of going on a campout, we had a fun day downtown. First we went to the Bricktown Ballpark where they had snow slides that we slid down on big, rubber tubes. After that, we went to the Braums Ice Rink and went ice skating. It was a fun day.Shooting- Δ
The troop went to a shooting range and were taught how to shoot guns. The teachers were professional coaches who helped the boys a lot. It was a great learning experience.The Lock-In- Δ
One night the troop camped in the church building. Many people brought video games, movies and somebody brought a computer to hook up and play games on. Everybody played electronic games into the late hours, and only one person, Stephen Wehe, slept at all. In the morning, everyone packed up their equipment and with bags under their eyes went home to sleep all day.Grants Eagle Project- Δ
Grant carried out his Eagle project on a frigid, windy day (terrible luck). We who attended stood out in the cold at Grants church and built picnic tables for a pavilion. It was well-organized, quick work and we constructed 3 picnic tables in about four hours. Then we went inside the church (warm paradise) and ate pizza. It was a productive day of good work and earning service hours.Incredible Pizza- Δ
For our February event, we went to Incredible Pizza. We got a private party room, ate pizza, and played a bunch of video games together. It was a really easy, fun event for the whole family.Hobby Show- Δ
For our February 28th meeting, we had a hobby show. People brought coins, stamps, guitars, Legos, keychains, a unicycle and much, much more. I thought it was interesting to see our troop members hobbies and collections.District Camporee- (Apr 06) Δ

Red Rock Canyon (Apr 05) Δ
This was a fun campout. The campgrounds were very nice, the small canyon next to the campsite was fun to explore. The first day, when I got there, some of the troop was already there. After everyone had set up camp, we went and looked around the canyon next to the campsite before dinner we sat around talking a little while after dinner before going to bed.The next day, after breakfast, we did more climbing in the canyon. Later we did a nature hike for the younger scouts. After the hike some people packed up and left, including me. After I left, there was a football game with the remaining people. After that, I dont know of anything else they did, so that was the end of the campout.
Alabaster Caverns (May 05) Δ
Alabaster caverns was a little bit different than others. We had a rare opportunity to sleep in a small cave close to our campsite. We had the caves reserved for two nights, so half of the people who wanted to sleep in the cave did the first night, and the other half the second night. We originally planed on going wild caving, but made a last second change of plans. We took a tour of the main caves Saturday morning, then the rest of the day was pretty much open we spent the day playing football or exploring the extensive trails around our campsite. The next day everybody pretty much ate breakfast, broke camp, and left. All and all it was a fun campout.Summer Camp (Jul 05) Δ
This year we went to Camp Tom Hale. Tom Hale has a very good program that offers a wide array of merit of merit badges including some very unique ones such as snow sports and horsemanship. You can also earn pins for completing different activities in merit badges, and during free time. They always had some activity for you to do.The first day we drove out and took a tour of the camp, this was when the camp got the only rain they had gotten all month.
